Sky Sports Spanish football expert Guillem Balague is ‘convinced’ that Real Madrid will sell long-term Manchester United target Gareth Bale over the summer.
The former-Tottenham Hotspur star was strongly linked with a move to us last summer but a deal never materialised.
Back then, Zinedine Zidane didn’t want to let Bale leave the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, but the French manager appears to have relaxed his stance during the course of this season.
Gareth Bale has since suffered further injuries and his playing time at the Champions League holders has been limited. Zidane has since been able to put trust in both Isco and Marco Asensio as alternative options to the Welsh international.
However, Bale’s numbers are still impressive for the season. In his 20 La Liga appearances (15 starts) he has 11 goals, though only one assist. He has a further goal and two assists in 203 minutes of Champions League football this season across two starts and two substitute appearances.
Sky Sports expert Guillem Balague now believes that Bale will be sold from the Spanish capital this summer as Real Madrid look to pursuit other additions to their squad.
Balague said:
“I am convinced Real Madrid want to sell Gareth Bale. That is not Bale’s preferred choice, he would like to stay. Obviously somebody will have to buy Bale but I don’t think it will be Spurs; it doesn’t make sense for him to go back and it would cost Spurs too much to bring him back.”
With Real Madrid being 13 points behind runaway La Liga leaders Barcelona and effectively out of the title race before Christmas, the Spanish giants are expected to make a number of changes to their squad over the summer.
Manchester United and Jose Mourinho have been linked with a move for Gareth Bale for a while now, meaning this could be the summer we sign him.
However, Bale turns 29 in the summer and has already suffered from multiple injuries during his time in Spain – one would have to wonder if the £90 million valuation that is being reported, is of value. How many years does the winger have left in his prime? Can he stay healthy at Old Trafford?
Whilst it may be considered a gamble, there is no doubt that Gareth Bale is one of the top players in the world when he’s fit – capable of dribbling past anyone and with an excellent cross and finish on him. He started off as a left-back at Tottenham Hotspur before Harry Redknapp moved him to the left wing. He has predominately played on the right at Real Madrid but has even been used as a striker occasionally this season.
We do have several options in attack already, so one would wonder if Anthony Martial is in Jose Mourinho’s future plans should we make a move for Gareth Bale this summer?
