Sir Jim Ratcliffe to complete Man United sporting director hunt soon, two candidates shortlisted

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are planning to appoint a new director of football at Manchester United within the next few weeks.

According to the Telegraph, the new owners have narrowed down the search for a new football director to a couple of names.

The names shortlisted by INEOS are Dan Ashworth, Newcastle United’s director of football and Julian Ward, the former Liverpool sporting director.

Crystal Palace’s Dougie Freedman and Paul Mitchell, formerly head of recruitment at Tottenham Hotspur. are also in the mix.

Ratcliffe is making his mark ahead of the 2024/25 season

The British billionaire’s investment in the club has yet to be ratified, but he is already making his mark.

He has laid out the transfer priorities for the Red Devils as he aims to bring the glory days back to the Theatre of Dreams.

Recruiting Omar Berrada from Manchester City and appointing him as United’s new Chief Executive Officer looks to be a masterstroke.

Berrada has played a major role in the rise of the Cityzens over the last few years.

Hiring a Director of Football (DoF) is the next step for Ratcliffe to bring more structure to the Premier League club.

The new DoF and Berrada will work closely with Erik ten Hag. The duo will also have the final say on the Dutchman’s future.

It has been a tough campaign for Ten Hag, with Man United eliminated from the Champions League and the League Cup before the turn of the year.

They are facing a tough battle to grab a top-four spot in the Premier League to secure Champions League football for the next campaign.

Ten Hag could be asked to move on if the Red Devils fail to confirm a top-four berth.
