Sir Jim Ratcliffe gives green light as Man United prepare major Michael Carrick contract move

Manchester United are closing in on a statement decision ahead of the new season.

According to The Athletic, Man United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe gave the go-ahead to submit an initial contract offer to Michael Carrick for a two-year deal as head coach.

The development follows a key executive committee meeting this week, where CEO Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox recommended that Carrick be appointed on a permanent basis.

The report also states that assistant coach Steve Holland, along with Jonathan Woodgate, Jonny Evans and Travis Binnion, are all in line for new contracts.

The proposed two-year deal for Carrick is also expected to include an option to extend by a further 12 months.

Carrick has already overseen 15 matches in charge, guiding United to 10 wins and three draws during an impressive interim spell.

Remarkably, no Premier League side has collected more points than United since the former midfielder took over at Old Trafford.

That run has helped secure Champions League qualification for next season, with United also on course to finish inside the top three.

Appointing Carrick seems to be a logical move as the club is on an upward trajectory.

INEOS explored other managerial candidates but have ultimately decided to back Carrick.

Casemiro, Amad Diallo, Matheus Cunha and Kobbie Mainoo have publicly expressed their desire to work with Carrick next season.

It represents a major opportunity for the 44-year-old to restore sustained success and bring the glory days back to Old Trafford.
