Sir Alex Ferguson says Erik ten Hag ‘has done a fantastic job’ at Manchester United

Sir Alex Ferguson has praised Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag for doing ‘a fantastic job’ at the club.

Ten Hag arrived at Old Trafford last summer after the Red Devils’ disappointing 2021-22 campaign when they finished sixth in the league standings.

The Dutch boss made a huge impact in his first season as he led the club to Carabao Cup success, ending their six-year trophy drought.

United secured a third-place finish to qualify for the Champions League and came close to lifting the FA Cup, narrowly losing the final to Manchester City.

Ferguson, who won an incredible 38 trophies during his 26 years at Old Trafford, lavished praise on the former Ajax boss in an interview with NBC Sports

“I think Ten Hag has done a fantastic job,” he said. “He’s grabbed it – he’s brought his own players in.

“I think that was important – and if he gets the centre forward ready quickly, they’ll be a really good side.

“Because that’s what they have really lacked in the last few years – a centre forward.”

Man Utd’s nervy victory against Wolves highlights Ferguson is right

The Red Devils sealed a 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers last night, but their performance was unconvincing.

The visitors were the better side for most of the game and were unlucky to come away with nothing after Raphael Varane’s 76th-minute winner.

Marcus Rashford, who scored 30 goals in all competitions last season, was ineffective as a striker and made little impact.

Ferguson is bang on the money – United need a centre-forward. They have signed Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta, but the Dane is currently sidelined with a back injury.

Ten Hag has confirmed he will not rush the 20-year-old into action. However, he may be forced to feature the striker sooner rather than later due to their problems in attack.
