Should Shola Shoretire get first-team opportunities this season?

Manchester United’s U23’s were in action last night and ran out 4-2 winners against a strong Chelsea side.

The Reds came from behind to secure the victory thanks to goals from Amad Diallo, Mark Helm and two stunning goals from Shola Shoretire.

Shoretire has been in excellent form for the U23’s this season, playing 19 matches and scoring eight goals.

His impressive performances have earned him some brief cameos for the first team but he has failed to make a significant impact during his short time on the pitch.

So, is the 17-year-old ready to break through to the first team? There is certainly an argument to made for this.

Shoretire really thrives in the centre attacking midfielder role, which is where he shone against Chelsea.

As things stand, he would find it difficult to force Bruno Fernandes or even Donny van de Beek out of this role.

However, Shoretire can play across the midfield and has even been utilised as a winger in numerous U23 games this season.

This versatility is certainly a very valuable asset for the young man, and it could give Ole Gunnar Solksjaer something to think about when selecting his squad for the remaining fixtures.

However, Shoretire is only 17 and his smaller stature means he may not be physically ready to make the step up to the first team.

Despite this, there is no harm in providing the youngster with a few cameos in the remaining games this season.

With Manchester City running away with the league this year, some of the later games may prove pointless.

With United still in Europe, Solksjaer may want to rest players for the bigger games – which is where Shoretire could fit in nicely.

Whatever happens this season, it is clear to see that Shoretire looks like the real deal.

It will be exciting to see what the future holds for this unbelievably talented youngster.
