A selection of Manchester United fans have expressed their frustration over the performance of Juan Mata during the club’s slender 1-0 win over Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League.
The Red Devils ended an 11-match winless streak on the road on Thursday night but the display was far from impressive with just one shot on target through the entire 90 minutes.
That resulted from the first-half penalty scored by Anthony Martial and besides that, the team was ineffective and required a late reflex save from Sergio Romero to register maximum points.
For the game, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard were paired together in the attack behind Martial, but the duo failed to provide any kind of threat to the opposition.
Lingard has already been the subject of regular criticism from some of the fans and it now appears that Mata’s position has started being questioned with his inability to make an impact.
Here are some of the reactions…
Mata is finished. Him and Lingard should be sold in January. James brilliant since coming on, should've had an assist

Juan Mata is finished! He offers so little these days that we might as well be playing with ten men. He should just stick to writing blogs ?????

There are too many passengers in the team! Mata and Lingard were head of that list tonight!! Piss poor! They had zero influence and are suppose to be our more creative players.

The 31-year-old has certainly witnessed a dip in his performance levels over the past few seasons and he has contributed just the solitary goal through the current calendar year.
Elsewhere, he has also been slow with his decision-making without any end product to his game and this will surely present question marks over the club’s choice to hand him a three-year deal earlier in the summer.
Manchester United will switch their focus to the Premier League for the weekend where they are scheduled to face Daniel Farke’s Norwich City away from home.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side need to produce a much better performance at Carrow Road, given the Canaries won’t shy away from their attacking philosophy.
