Sevilla want to sign Man Utd forward Mateo Mejia, Red Devils eye sell-on clause

La Liga giants Sevilla are interested in signing Manchester United forward Mateo Mejia this month, according to Spanish journalist Alvaro de Grado.

The 20-year-old has been with the Red Devils since 2019, but he has made just 30 appearances in the youth set-up amid a number of long-term injuries.

It is now reported that Sevilla are keen on landing the Colombian youth international, who has three goals and five assists in the Premier League 2 this season.

Mejia’s current deal at United expires in the summer. The Red Devils are prepared to sanction his move to Sevilla, provided they can secure a future sell-on clause.

Mejia could leave Man Utd this winter

The Spanish-born ace joined the Red Devils from Real Zaragoza’s academy in 2019 after reportedly scoring 60 goals across all age groups during a single campaign.

Since his move to United, he has struggled to impress consistently due to injury setbacks. He has found form this term with eight goal contributions from the right wing.

However, there are still doubts over his fitness. Hence, we are not surprised that the club are prepared to accept his exit. A 30 per cent sell-on clause would be ideal.

If Mejia goes on to impress in the Spanish top-flight, United could directly benefit with a good transfer sum from a future sale. This is better than losing him for free.

Aside from Mejia, Alvaro Fernandez could also depart in the ongoing transfer window. Benfica could sign him for less than €7 million by inserting a future sell-on clause.
