Ruben Amorim reveals he is “really happy” with Benjamin Sesko after 8/10 display vs Sunderland

Manchester United registered a 2-0 victory over Sunderland at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday, easing some pressure off manager Ruben Amorim.

Mason Mount and Benjamin Sesko scored two goals in the first half, enough to secure three points.

The Portuguese head coach praised Sesko for his hard-working display against the Black Cats.

He said after the game (via BBC Sport): “He has time, he’s going to stay here for a lot of years.

“The media puts a lot of pressure on the goals for the striker but for me it’s the effort that is the most important thing.

“Every time we kick the ball he’s fighting for it, that’s massive for us. To win the second ball and give us time to breathe. I’m really happy with that.”

Sesko received a 8/10 rating in our post-match analysis.

The Slovenian bagged his maiden United goal last weekend against Brentford.

The onus was on him to show that his goal was not just a one-off.

Sesko delivered a superb all-round performance against Sunderland and potentially saved Amorim’s job.

Dalot launched a long throw from the right which reached Sesko, who showed sharp instincts to slot it past goalkeeper Robin Roefs.

He also played two key passes for Bryan Mbeumo who should have done better to make it 3-0 for United.

Statistics will show that the 22-year-old lost 16 duels but that does not capture the full picture of his relentless work rate.

Sesko did extremely well to make life difficult for Sunderland’s defenders.

He battled hard and often won balls to release Amad Diallo and Mbeumo down the right flank.

With United struggling to find the same intensity after the break, Sesko put in a big shift to help his side defensively.

He made three tackles, two clearances and one interception.

Amorim is right to praise his new centre-forward and will hope that he keeps his goal-scoring streak going against Liverpool after the international break.
