Manchester United are set to restart our 2019-20 Premier League campaign on Friday when we travel to Tottenham Hotspur.
Victory would see us finish the night in fourth place ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Aston Villa on Sunday.
Prior to the disruption we had been unbeaten in 11 games in all competitions, winning three of our last four in the Premier League alone. The gap on Chelsea directly above us is down to three points.
Bruno Fernandes had made an impressive impact after signing at the end of January, whilst Odion Ighalo was filling in adequately for the injured Marcus Rashford.
Three months later and Rashford will be fit again to start at the New Tottenham Stadium, as will Paul Pogba, should the manager select the French midfielder.
In the words of Sky Sports, “With the exception of title-chasing Liverpool, few would have bemoaned the suspension of the season more than Manchester United.”
We also have one step in the Europa League quarter-finals after our 5-0 thrashing of LASK in the first leg of our round of 16 tie, in what was our final match before football in England was suspended.
Silverware could be on the cards this summer as we are also in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, where we will go to Norwich City at the end of this month.
A top four finish has to be our priority though, as Sky Sports agree. Their article on the Premier League restart believes the return of both Rashford and Pogba from their injuries will give us plenty of optimism in our final nine games, saying:
“United’s pre-lockdown upturn was made all the more impressive by the fact that it was done without key personnel, so the sight of Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba returning to fitness in time for the restart will only add the sense of optimism at the club.”
Here at Red Rants we are optimistic that we can finish in the top four this season as well as winning a trophy. Victory away to Spurs on Friday will certainly go a long way towards that.
