Scott McTominay set for Man Utd stay amid interest from three European clubs

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay is set to stay at the club amid interest from Bayern Munich, Fulham and Inter Milan, according to The Athletic.

The Scotland international has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford throughout the summer, but he is unlikely to head for the exit door before the transfer deadline.

United have today reached an agreement to sign Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina. The Moroccan will add competition for places in the holding midfield department.

Despite this, manager Erik ten Hag believes McTominay is too valuable to lose. He is conscious of his midfield balance and sees the £40 million star as a unique profile.

While McTominay is set to stay, Donny van de Beek could leave with fresh loan interest from Galatasaray. The Turkish transfer window remains open until September 15.

Man Utd have made the right decision with McTominay

United currently have Casemiro as the undisputed starter from the defensive midfield role. Amrabat could provide back-up to him. The duo could also play together this season.

McTominay’s chances of starting will be reduced further with Amrabat’s presence, but the 26-year-old remains a quality squad player, who can be used to close out games.

While Amrabat is gifted with strong distribution skills and concentration from midfield, he is not a tough tackler. McTominay is a good option for the manager off the bench.

Hence, we are not surprised by the transfer decision. The club could revisit his situation at the turn of the year, suppose he grows unsettled with the limited playing time.

United are scheduled to face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. They have the opportunity to go into the international break on the back of successive league wins.
