Scott McTominay produces gritty performance as Man Utd beat Brentford

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay produced a gritty performance as the Red Devils secured a slender Premier League win over Brentford on Wednesday night.

The Scotland international had a tough outing against Newcastle United last weekend and there were suggestions that he could be replaced by Fred in the number six role.

However, manager Erik ten Hag continued with the Scot against the Bees and the 26-year-old proved his worth with an impressive showing over the course of 90 minutes.

McTominay was not flawless with his distribution but he showed a good defensive resolve, winning eight ground and aerial duels while drawing four fouls from the opposition.

However, the main highlight of his performance was his two vital blocks midway through the second half.

In our opinion, the midfielder was the man of the match for his brilliant display at the heart of the midfield and he will be hoping to replicate the feat against Everton.

United moved back to fourth in the league standings after the hard-fought win and they are now three points clear of fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur with a game in hand.

Hence, the club are in a strong position to finish in the top four but they need to refocus quickly with the game against Everton scheduled for 12.30pm BST on Saturday.

McTominay should keep his place in the starting line-up with Casemiro still suspended. The Brazilian will serve the final game of his four-match domestic ban against the Toffees.
