Paul Scholes has claimed that Wayne Rooney is a much better and more efficient player when he plays with a controlled dose of aggression, rather than when he lets games pass him by.
Having been dropped for the game against Stoke City, the United captain produced an improved performance against Chelsea on Monday night, although he still managed to squander a glorious chance late on.
Rooney, who was rather bizarrely chosen as man of the match, was lucky to remain on the pitch for a vicious challenge on Oscar late in the game, but his former teammate believes the 30-year-old is at his best when playing on the edge.
“It is a much better Wayne Rooney,” Scholes said on BT Sport.
“To have a placid Wayne Rooney is just not the same.
“The aggressiveness was there tonight. His movement, his touch was brilliant when it came into him and his passing was great as well.
“The only thing that was missing was the goal.”
