Ryan Giggs wants Man United to sign Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton this summer

Manchester United are set for a major midfield overhaul this summer.

Club legend Ryan Giggs has already weighed in, naming two midfielders he believes United should target.

Speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, the 52-year-old revealed his admiration for Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton.

He said: “I like Anderson, I like Wharton. We got to have a left-footer in the team.

“I have not seen much of Carlos Baleba so I can’t really comment on him.”

Casemiro is set to leave United after his contract expires at the end of June. The club could also show the door to Manuel Ugarte, who has really failed to step up and adapt to the Premier League.

If both players leave, Kobbie Mainoo would be left as the only senior central midfielder in the squad.

That scenario makes it abundantly clear that United must recruit at least two midfielders this summer.

We took a closer look at what Anderson and Wharton could bring to the team.

The Nottingham Forest star has emerged as one of the most sought-after midfielders and appears destined for a move to an elite club.

United are likely to face stiff competition from Manchester City, who are keen to reduce their reliance on Rodri.

At just 23, Anderson possesses the attributes to develop into one of the finest complete midfielders in the game.

Wharton also operates in a deeper role but stands out for his exceptional vision and composure on the ball.

The 22-year-old has the ability to unlock defences with incisive, line-breaking passes.

While some argue that his profile overlaps with Mainoo’s, there is a strong case for United to seize the opportunity to bring him to Old Trafford.

Mainoo and Wharton could complement each other effectively, particularly against teams that sit deep and concede possession.
