Former Manchester United striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy has been working closely with Robin Van Persie to help his compatriot to remain deadly in front of goal, as he once was.
Van Nistelrooy was named in Guus Hiddink’s staff for the Holland squad as the former Chelsea manager replaced Louis Van Gaal in charge of the Oranje and the former United striker has been working as a coach to the strikers.
Having scored an incredible 150 goals in 219 games for United, Van Nistelrooy is undoubtedly a man to take an advice or two from and Van Persie said working with the former United striker will make him a better player.
“If there is anyone in this football world who can still teach me stuff, than it is strikers of the calibre of Ruud or Patrick Kluivert,” said Van Persie, who has scored 48 goals for United since joining the club in the summer of 2012.
“Ruud points out vital details of the art of finishing.
“With Holland, I missed a chance against Italy on Friday night. He had noticed in the slow motion of the video that my shoulders were not pointing exactly towards the goal when I took the ball in a volley from the corner of the box.
“He was dead right. The ball was doing what my body was guiding to do.
“Next time I have to get that detail right again.’’
