Ruben Amorim wants Man Utd to make these two signings after Bryan Mbeumo

Manchester United could make at least two more signings during the summer transfer window, according to Mirror.

The Red Devils have primarily focused on bolstering their forward department this summer.

They have so far confirmed the arrivals of playmaker Matheus Cunha and left-back Diego Leon.

It is only a matter of time before winger Bryan Mbeumo makes the switch from Brentford.

Mirror now report that manager Ruben Amorim wants to add more quality to the ranks before the new campaign begins.

He is ‘desperate’ to make at least two more signings – a striker and a midfielder, while clearing out most of the deadwood.

Marcus Rashford is on his way to Barcelona on loan with an option to buy next summer.

Alongside the Englishman, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia are poised to be shown the exit door.

United should meet Amorim’s squad requirements

Based on what we saw last season, it is pretty clear that United need a marquee striker who can guarantee 20 league goals for the campaign.

Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee netted a combined seven league goals last term, and a repeat could see United in mid-table once more.

Amorim is well aware of the situation. Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta could be potential solutions for United.

Mateta’s performances in particular have gone under the radar. He has netted 27 Premier League goals since manager Oliver Glasner took charge at Palace in February 2024.

Only Erling Haaland, Alexander Isak and Mohamed Salah have scored more during that period. Mateta’s strong presence and finishing skills would suit the Red Devils.

A new midfielder should likewise be signed, with the lack of control in the centre of the park last season.

With the signings of Cunha and Mbeumo, captain Bruno Fernandes is widely expected to operate from the central midfield position under Amorim in the future.

Fernandes is one of the best in the business in scoring goals and creating chances, but he needs the support of a strong defensive midfielder, with Casemiro no longer in his prime.

Manuel Ugarte has also been inconsistent with his performances. Atalanta’s Ederson has been a long-term target, and United could revive their pursuit of the Brazilian ace.

A wildcard signing would be Palace sensation Adam Wharton, but the south London outfit could hold out for a significant transfer fee, which could put the Red Devils off.
