Manchester United registered a comfortable 4-1 victory over AFC Bournemouth in the second friendly game of the Premier League summer series.
Rasmus Hojlund and Bruno Fernandes put in fine performances but Patrick Dorgu stole the limelight with his all-round display.
Manager Ruben Amorim showered praise on the 20-year-old after the game.
He said (via ManUtd.com): “It’s impressive. He’s 20 years old.
“He looks more and more like he belongs in Manchester United, and that is hard to do it [at] 20 years old, but he’s so powerful, he’s getting his technique in his game, he’s defending so well, he’s pressing so well.
“So I’m really impressed with Patrick.”
Dorgu floated a perfect cross between the two defenders, drawing a run from Rasmus Hojlund who guided the ball into the net.
In the 25th minute, he showed alertness to react to Mason Mount’s quick free-kick and make a darting run towards goal after shrugging off his man.
Djordje Petrovic should have made the save but Dorgu got rewarded for his bright start.
The Denmark international completed his move to Old Trafford from Serie A outfit Lecce in early February.
Amorim wanted to bring him to United after being impressed with his industrious attacking energy.
Naturally a left-footed player, Dorgu is a versatile star who has played in at least five different positions at Lecce.
The Portuguese head coach sees him as an ideal left wing-back in his 3-4-2-1 system.
Despite his tall frame, Dorgu struggled physically in a few games last term.
However, he has put in great effort to build his physicality over the summer and could be set for a big 2025-26 season.
The youngster is expected to run up and down the flank to provide width and deliver crosses into the box.
His assist to Hojlund today came from his weak right foot, an encouraging sign for Amorim and his coaching staff.
Hopefully, he can break the trend of talented starlets failing due to the heavy weight of the United shirt.
