Incoming Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has admitted that he could be open to reuniting with some of his players at Sporting CP at the Old Trafford club next summer.
While the Portuguese has no plans of signing any of them during the January transfer window, he is not ruling out moves for them in the summer.
Man United has been linked with Sporting hitman Victor Gyokeres after he notched 66 goals in 67 games for the Portuguese top-flight club, while Amorim reportedly wants to reunite with centre-back Ousmane Diomande.
The Red Devils splashed the cash last summer, and while their new boss will not be given the same power as Erik ten Hag when it comes to transfers, he is expected to have a say in whoever the club decide to sign.
Given his style of play and preferred 3-4-3 formation, a squad overhaul could be on the cards at Man United, and plenty of departures are expected at the end of the season.
The current players have around six months to prove they have what it takes to feature prominently in Amorim’s plans.
However, the truth of the matter is that most of them are not good enough for Man United.
The defence, midfield and attack need improving, and Amorim could look to bring in one or two of his best players at Sporting.
Ten Hag reunited with some of his former Ajax players at United, but only Andre Onana and Lisandro Martinez proved valuable.
The new boss cannot afford to make a similar mistake as he looks to improve United’s fortunes.
