Ruben Amorim must drop Man Utd ace after disappointing display vs Lyon

Manchester United shared the spoils against Lyon (2-2) in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-final at the Groupama Stadium yesterday.

The Red Devils went into the game as slight favourites, but two goalkeeping errors prevented them from securing the victory.

Andre Onana let Thiago Almada score from a freekick due to his poor judgement.

United pulled level through a Leny Yoro header just before the half-time whistle.

Joshua Zirkzee seemed to have scored the winner for United in the 88th minute, but Onana ruined the Dutchman’s night.

The 29-year-old made another error in the dying seconds, which allowed Rayan Cherki to score a late equaliser for Lyon.

Onana must be dropped to the bench for the Premier League clash against Newcastle United on the road on Sunday. Altay Bayindir should replace him.

Alongside Onana, Rasmus Hojlund should not be in the XI after another lacklustre showing.

The Dane was once again preferred to lead the attack ahead of Zirkzee.

He had a wonderful chance early on to put United ahead but fluffed his lines with a poor finish.

Hojlund played for 63 minutes but had just 10 touches and three successful passes.

He won none of his three ground duels and had another forgettable game for the Red Devils.

Hojlund received a 4/10 rating from Manchester Evening News for his disappointing display.

In our view, manager Ruben Amorim has a straightforward decision to make.

Along with Onana, the 22-year-old must be dropped from the starting line-up to face the Magpies.

The Red Devils are languishing 13th in the league table but still have pride to play for.

Amorim may want United to finish as high as possible in the final seven matches.

Zirkzee deserves to lead the attack ahead of Hojlund, having impressed off the bench lately.
