Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim could drop Andre Onana from his starting XI for the trip to Newcastle United on Sunday in favour of Altay Bayindir, according to the Daily Mail.
The Cameroon international was at fault for both goals last night as the Red Devils were held to a 2-2 draw by Lyon in the first-leg of the quarter-final of the Europa League, and he could now be taken out of the firing line.
Amorim is set to ring the changes as Man United look to pick up all three points against the Magpies, and it could work in the favour of Bayindir.
The 26-year-old Turkey international has yet to make his Premier League debut since joining the Old Trafford club in the summer of 2023, with his seven appearances coming in other competitions.
Bayindir has impressed in some of the games he has featured in, putting in a Man of the Match performance against Arsenal in the FA Cup triumph back in January.
He has appeared in two Europa League games since then but remains behind Onana in the pecking order and it remains to be seen whether Amorim will trust him to start against Newcastle.
Man United are looking to finish in the top-half of the Premier League table as they are currently 13th after 31 games, seven points off 10th position, and they need to win on Sunday to boost their chances of finishing the campaign well.
Onana has committed eight errors leading to goals since joining the Red Devils, but Bayindir has not done enough to convince anyone that he is an upgrade on the Cameroonian, and Amorim will be taking a gamble if he decides to play him this weekend despite the form of his first-choice.
Man United could be forced to recruit the services of a new goalie in the summer if nothing changes with their current options, but Bayindir could have a chance to prove himself in the Premier League and he has to grab it with both hands if given an opportunity.
