Roy Keane gives clear verdict on Andoni Iraola to Man United links

Manchester United legend Roy Keane is not convinced that Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has what it takes to be in charge at Old Trafford.

INEOS made a bold call in January by parting ways with Ruben Amorim and handing the reins to Michael Carrick on an interim basis.

Since then, several high-profile names have been linked with the prestigious role at the Theatre of Dreams, with Iraola among the contenders.

Keane has acknowledged the impressive work done by the 43-year-old, but he remains sceptical about his readiness for a club of United’s stature.

He said (via Sky Sports): “I’m not sure if he’s done enough yet. I’m sure United are looking at him, his contract is up. But could I see him coming to Man Utd? Probably not.

“There is a different pressure at Bournemouth to Man Utd. Would he be an option? I don’t know. You’ve asked me if I see him coming to Man Utd, maybe not.

“But he has done an amazing job.”

Too big a step for Andoni Iraola

Iraola is a talented manager and could become one of the best of his generation over the next decade.

Under his guidance, Bournemouth have evolved into a well-drilled, high-intensity side built on relentless pressing.

The Cherries currently sit sixth in the table and are firmly in contention for European football next season.

It has been a dream season for the south coast side, but they are set to lose Iraola this summer.

Carrick has made a compelling case to take the job permanently at Old Trafford.

He has overseen statement victories over Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool during his impressive 13-game spell.

United have already secured a return to the UEFA Champions League and remain on course for a third-place finish.

Appointing Carrick now appears both a logical and the safe choice for INEOS moving forward.

A deviation from that plan would likely only come if an elite, proven manager such as Luis Enrique or Carlo Ancelotti becomes available.

Iraola is a tactically shrewd head coach but the jump from Bournemouth to United is too big for him.
