Wayne Rooney’s season could be over following the knee injury the Manchester United captain sustained against Everton on Sunday afternoon.
According to the Daily Mirror, United are worried that Rooney, who limped off in the final stages of United’s 3-0 defeat at Goodison Park after colliding with Daley Blind, could miss the remaining four league games with what appears to be a rather serious injury problem.
With Radamel Falcao and Robin Van Persie both woefully out of form, albeit for different reasons, Louis Van Gaal could face a selection dilemma as Unite seek to clinch a Champions League spot in the Dutchman’s first season in charge.
Falcao and Van Persie, who scored for United U21 against Fulham on Tuesday night, both came on against Everton but have struggled throughout the season, with the Colombian scoring just four goals in 13 league starts, while the Dutchman netted a paltry 10 goals in all competitions this season.
United host West Bromwich Albion on Saturday knowing that two wins from their next four games will secure a top-four finish, after Liverpool failed to capitalise on United’s slip-up on Sunday by losing their game in hand to Hull 1-0 last night.
However, with a trips to Crystal Palace and relegation-threatened Hull either side of Arsenal’s visit to Old Trafford, United could be set for a somewhat anxious for weeks if goals dry up.
