Rooney to miss West Ham game

Manchester-United-v-PSV-Eindhoven (2)Wayne Rooney will miss tomorrow’s game against West Ham United with a “nasty” ankle injury, Louis Van Gaal confirmed during his press conference on Friday.

Rooney’s injury is hardly going to be cause of much concerns among United fans given his dismal performances this season, although it is the latest setback for Van Gaal, who earlier this week lost Marcos Rojo to a serious shoulder injury.

“His ankle is not good enough and he has to recover that ankle with a lot of strength. He needs more time,” Van Gaal said of Rooney’s injury, confirming the United captain will have to wait to make his 500th appearance for the club, as it might not be fit for Tuesday’s crucial trip to Wolfsburg.

Van Gaal also confirmed that Ander Herrera and Phil Jones will miss out against West Ham, as will Rojo, who dislocated his shoulder in training on Wednesday.

“He was recovered of his injury so he trained with us Wednesday,” Van Gaal said of the Argentine defender.

“I have given two days off to all players and he had to recover inside but also he had a free day Tuesday. Then he start fresh with us but then he fall down and it was a bad fall. It is more or less the same as what happened last season so he is more weeks out.”
