Rooney: “Fergie is the greatest manager ever”

Manchester-United-v-Swansea-City-Premier-LeagueWayne Rooney has described Sir Alex Ferguson as “the greatest manager of all times” and dismissed the well-documented row he had with his former manager as “having different opinions”.

After his final home game in charge of United, Ferguson accused Rooney of having handed in a second transfer request in three years, hinting the striker had not been happy at being played in a role he did not consider his own.

The duo’s turbulent relationship was given an entire chapter in Ferguson’s biography, which was published a few months after his retirement, but Rooney insisted the relationship between the pair remains solid.

“I don’t know if anyone knows how things ended (between us),” Rooney said.

“We had differences (of opinion). That’s normal. Ask Roy (Hodgson), he’s had differences with other players. That’s part of football.”

Rooney added that despite the differences between and the former United manager, he has not lost respect for Fergie.

“I’m not the only person who had differences with Sir Alex Ferguson, but I can still sit here and say he was the greatest manager of all time,” the United captain said.

“I still see Sir Alex quite a bit at games and he travels away to European games with us. It’s not that we don’t like each other. We just had differences. That’s normal.”
