Manchester United have finally reached an agreement with Inter Milan regarding the transfer of Romelu Lukaku away from the club, a report from Guardian‘s Fabrizio Romano has revealed.
The Belgian’s future has been a regular topic of speculation over the past month and it recently appeared that he could make the move to Juventus in a swap deal involving Paulo Dybala.
However, the Red Devils were not able to finalise personal terms with Dybala and that meant that Lukaku’s move to Turin broke down with the Serie A holders reluctant to negotiate a straight-cash deal.
Lukaku has since been widely fancied to make the move to the Nerazzurri, who failed with a £54m bid earlier in the summer, and Romano has now confirmed that a transfer deal has been finalised between the sides.
United were initially said to be demanding a fee in the region of £80m, but they have eventually accepted a lesser package of £70m including add-ons for the 26-year-old, who will undergo his Inter medical on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Lukaku’s departure from Old Trafford could trigger the need for a new striker and a report from Evening Standard has claimed that the club have reopened talks to sign Juventus’ Mario Mandzukic.
Many United fans would surely want another young and exciting striker arriving at the club, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seems to want an experienced and cost-cut option to cover up Lukaku’s void before Thursday’s transfer deadline.
At present, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Alexis Sanchez are capable of leading the line for the club next season but behind them, there is very little experience with only Mason Greenwood to bank upon.
