Roma make Man United striker Joshua Zirkzee a transfer priority

Forward Joshua Zirkzee could leave Manchester United in the winter transfer window due to lack of game time.

He has featured in just five games across all competitions and has yet to be named in the starting line-up this term.

Several clubs are already circling around Zirkzee, with Roma among them.

Corriere dello Sport reports that the Italian side have made the 24-year-old their priority as they seek to bolster their attacking options.

Roma are considering a loan deal with an option to buy, contingent upon qualification for the Champions League.

They have already identified Nottingham Forest’s Arnaud Kalimuendo as an alternative to the United star.

Roma have had a brilliant start to the campaign, occupying joint-top spot with Inter Milan in the Serie A standings. However, they have struggled to score goals, netting only 12 times in 11 games.

Zirkzee is interested in joining Gian Piero Gasperini’s side, as he wants more game time to regain his place in the Netherlands squad ahead of the the World Cup.

West Ham United have also been credited with an interest in the Bayern Munich academy graduate.

However, United may not sanction Zirkzee’s exit in January due to the potential involvement of forwards Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo at the Africa Cup of Nations.

In fact, the Sun claims that the former Bologna man has been told that there is ‘no chance’ of him leaving in January.

Despite his limited minutes, Zirkzee has shown that he can thrive under manager Ruben Amorim, playing as one of the two No.10s, owing to his ability to play between the lines.

With Mbeumo and Diallo missing several key games due to AFCON, he could have the chance to play more games and impress Amorim.

Zirkzee can also deputise for Benjamin Sesko, who may need to be rested for some matches, due to the congested schedule.

The Dutch forward could eventually leave Man United, but may have to wait until next summer.
