Rio Ferdinand reveals what result he’d take from Liverpool vs Man United clash

Manchester United face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, aiming to record back-to-back league victories for the first time under manager Ruben Amorim.

United convincingly beat Sunderland 3-0 at Old Trafford before the international break to record their third league victory of the campaign and break into the top half of the table.

The victory also marked the Mancunian giants’ third consecutive home win this season – the first time they have achieved such a feat under Amorim.

United will look to build on the momentum and pile more misery on rivals Liverpool, who have lost their last three games across all competitions.

Former centre-back Rio Ferdinand has given his thoughts ahead of the fixture.

He told Rio Ferdinand Presents: “I will take a point right now. If we get a point there, it is a humongous result for us and hopefully instils some confidence. I am hopeful.”

A draw would represent a massive result for United, but the Red Devils have a big opportunity to register their first win at Liverpool since 2016.

Besides the defending champions’ poor form, they may also be without several key players, which could affect their preparation for Sunday’s showdown.

The Merseyside outfit will be without first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker, and there are fitness concerns surrounding Ibrahima Konate and Ryan Gravenberch.

Additionally, the form of some United players during this international break could boost their momentum heading into the fixture.

Forward Bryan Mbeumo came off the bench to score in Cameroon’s World Cup qualifying game against Mauritius.

At the same time, Casemiro delivered a top-notch performance and Matheus Cunha registered an assist in Brazil’s 5-0 win over South Korea.

Amorim will hope these players can replicate this form at Liverpool and also return from international duty unscathed.
