Rio Ferdinand makes Manchester United top-four prediction after West Ham loss

Rio Ferdinand thinks that Liverpool will win all their remaining three Premier League matches to keep up the pressure on Manchester United in the top-four race.

The Red Devils suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss to West Ham United on Sunday in a big blow to their hopes of securing Champions League football.

Goalkeeper David de Gea committed a massive error that allowed the Hammers to score midway through the first half.

The Spaniard allowed a tame Said Benrahma effort to slip through his grasp and United were unable to recover.

The defeat means Liverpool are now just one point behind United in the table, albeit the Merseyside outfit have played a game more.

Ferdinand believes Jurgen Klopp’s side will win all their remaining matches, but the Red Devils will still ‘do enough to make it into the top four.

“If you went into that dressing room and said ‘you’ve got three out of the last four games at Old Trafford’, you’d take that,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.

“The form hasn’t been great of late, but they have to find it from somewhere and I think that crowd at Old Trafford have got to play a part.

“The players have to set the tone; they’ve not been good enough in recent weeks and they’ve got to close games out.

“Liverpool are hot on their heels and it doesn’t look like they are going to lose any of the last games.

“I think Liverpool win all of their last three games and it will put the pressure on, but I think United will do enough to make it into the top four. I’d be surprised if they don’t.”

Erik ten Hag’s side have been highly unconvincing in recent weeks, winning just one of their last four Premier League matches.

While De Gea was the main culprit on Sunday, Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, Christian Eriksen and Tyrell Malacia were also off the pace.

United cannot afford any more slip-ups, or they will finish outside the top four.

Liverpool are now on a six-game winning run in the English top flight, and they look a good bet to maintain their recent form.

United are under enormous pressure to pick up points in their final four games, and they have only themselves to blame for this situation.
