Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has claimed that the likes of Nani and Cristiano Ronaldo have spoken positively about the performances of Bruno Fernandes on the playing field.
The Portuguese was heavily fancied to join United at the turn of the year and he eventually signed for the club on Thursday after a deal worth £47m was agreed with Sporting.
Fernandes is expected to make his United debut during the weekend’s Premier League clash against Wolves but prior to that, Ferdinand has said that midfielder could be the perfect signing for the club from what he has heard.
“I’ve spoken to a few of his teammates at national level and club level. Nani, my old teammate, says he’s a fantastic player, says he’s perfect for England. Says he’s got all the tools, all the right attributes,” he told FIVE as relayed by Metro.
“Cristiano said he’s fantastic, creates chances for him. He can manipulate the ball, take the ball, confident. These is the type of things that you want to hear when Manchester United are signing a player.”
United have lacked the presence of a creative midfield player in their ranks this season, particularly with Paul Pogba injured for most of the campaign. Judging by Fernandes’ quality, he should definitely make his debut from the starting XI but could take sometime to adjust to the demands of the Premier League.
Obviously, he has the tendency to take more risks in the final third which has helped him to contribute regularly in the form of goals and assists at Sporting, and the United fans will be hoping for more of the same as the club make the push for the top four this season.
Meanwhile, the Portuguese is also a set-piece specialist and the United players should benefit with more precise deliveries into the opposition box. Andreas Pereira, in particular, has been average with his distribution from corner-kicks this season.
