‘Right direction’: Erik ten Hag delivers exciting injury update on Leny Yoro

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has provided an important update on Leny Yoro’s recovery from a long-term injury.

Yoro underwent surgery after suffering a metatarsal injury during the pre-season clash with Arsenal in the United States.

Even though United have not pencilled his return date, the defender is expected to be back before the end of the year.

Ten Hag told MUTV: “Yes, he is doing very well. It is very pleasing that his rehab is going in the right direction.

“I expect him soon, but what I mean by soon is that he is now in the right planning process.

“He is in the right spot and will return as soon as possible to the squad and then the team training.”

Yoro moved to Old Trafford from Lille for an initial £52.2 million this summer.

Real Madrid and Liverpool were highly interested in acquiring the young centre-back, but United swooped in with an irresistible offer that Lille couldn’t refuse.

The Red Devils currently have plenty of options at the back. Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez are the first-choice centre-back pair.

Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans provide robust back-up, while Victor Lindelof is also nearing a return from injury.

United should ease Yoro slowly into the team by the turn of the year.

The 18-year-old has the potential to be a key player for the Red Devils over the next decade, provided the club nurture his talent effectively.

It is encouraging to hear his rehab is going as planned.

Tyrell Malacia suffered an injury before the start of the previous campaign and is yet to return.

He suffered multiple setbacks that delayed his return. However, he participated in recent training sessions with the team and appeared to be in high spirits.
