Richarlison and Pato react as Antony bags late goal in Man United FA Cup quarter-final victory over Liverpool

Manchester United secured a hard-fought 4-3 win over Liverpool in the quarter-final of the FA Cup at Old Trafford on Sunday, with Antony proving to be the hero as he came off the bench to bag a late equaliser in regular time.

Scott McTominay put the Red Devils ahead after ten minutes, but Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah gave the visitors a 2-1 lead at the break.

Liverpool appeared to be cruising towards a win until Antony notched an 87th-minute equaliser to force the game into extra-time.

Harvey Elliott restored the Reds’ lead in the first half of extra time, but goals from Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo secured a huge victory for Man United.

They will face Coventry City in the semi-finals at Wembley Stadium next month.

Antony was a relieved man after grabbing his second goal for the Red Devils in his 30th appearance of the season, and his teammate Harry Maguire and fellow Brazilians Richarlison and Pato reacted to his heroics on his Instagram post.

The £85 million signing from 2022 has not started a Premier League match in two-and-a-half months, with his last league start coming against Nottingham Forest on December 30

He needed a big performance having been under huge pressure to start delivering.

Antony is approaching a year without a goal or assist in the league, but his strike against Liverpool yesterday will serve as a huge boost for his morale.

It could also be a turning point after months of consistent struggle in front of goal.

Man United return to action after the international break with a trip to Gtech Community Stadium to face Brentford on March 30.

The 24-year-old will be eagerly looking forward to that game and hope to finally open his goalscoring account in the Premier League this term.
