Osimhen joined Napoli from Lille for an initial fee of £54million.
According to Osimhen’s brother, the striker turned down a potential move to Man United before joining Napoli.
Speaking to Complete Sports, Andrew Osimhen said: “It is very true that Manchester United wanted Victor but he told me something like he had too much respect for Odion Ighalo to be competing for shirts with his senior colleague”.
He added: “My brother holds Ighalo in high esteem and he just didn’t see himself going to Old Trafford to battle for a striking role with the highest goalscorer at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.”
Odion Ighalo joined United on the last day of the winter transfer window on a 6 months loan deal from Shanghai Shenhua. United have extended his loan deal a further 6 months. Ighalo’s deal at United is set to expire in January of 2021.
Osimhen’s performances for Napoli in the pre-season friendlies make it look like United have missed out on an exciting prospect.
However, United don’t need a striker anymore. Anthony Martial’s form last season suggests he is in top form and Ighalo is a decent backup.
