Revealed: Manchester United paid a staggering fee to sack Jose Mourinho

Manchester United’s quarterly financial records have brought the fact to light that the Mancunian side paid an enormous amount while sacking their manager Jose Mourinho and his management team in 2019.

Manchester United hired Jose Mourinho as their manager in 2016.

Having signed the big names like Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba in the summer transfer window, the club went on to win two trophies in EFL Cup and UEFA Europa League in Mourinho’s first season at the helm.

In his second season, he helped United finish second in the Premier League but ended the campaign trophyless.

The Portuguese gaffer eventually got the sack as a torrid run of form and results hit the Manchester-based club, and a then-ongoing conflict between Mourinho and Paul Pogba meant the former had lost control totally over the dressing room.

On December 18, 2018, Mourinho got the sack, becoming the third manager to be shown the exit door by Ed Woodward ever since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson.

As revealed by BBC Sport journalist Simone Stone, United paid an amount of £19.6m as compensation to fire Mourinho and his managerial peers at Manchester United.

Ever since then, the club’s former striker in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been in the charge of United’s management.

On the other hand, Jose Mourinho joined another Premier League club in Tottenham Hotspur as their permanent boss in 2019.
