Revealed: Manchester United failed to sign Real Madrid youngster several times over the years

According to a report from Spanish outlet MARCA, Manchester United tried to lure Real Madrid’s Martin Odegaard several times over the last few years. But, their efforts didn’t produce results

However, the compatriot of Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remained intact with his plan to don the midfield of Real Madrid on regular basis.

As per the reports, Manchester United were hugely impressed with Odegaard’s loan spell at Real Sociedad last season and had tried even before to strike down a deal for the 21-year-old.

On the other hand, Real Madrid were keen to include Odegaard in a deal for Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba in the latest summer transfer window.

Though, the influence of coronavirus pandemic over the financial aspects of La Liga giants meant they had to utilize the situation wisely. Hence, they decided not to go for the Pogba, and Odegaard stayed put at Los Blancos.

Speaking to media in 2015, the Norweigan said,

“I visited Liverpool, the two Manchester teams and they were all very nice.

“But my choice was Real Madrid and I am very happy with that.”

Since moving from Norwegian first-tier club Stromsgodset to Real Madrid in 2015, Odegaard has made only five appearances for the 13-times UEFA Champions League winners.

However, he has not opened his either of his assist or goalscoring tally.

Odegaard already dropped a glimpse of his traits last season – racking up seven goals and nine assists from 36 appearances.
