European football expert Gabriele Marcotti has questioned Manchester United and Manchester City for failing to challenge Chelsea for the signing of Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz. [source-Express]
Marcotti expressed his views on the Gab and Jules podcast, saying:
“Do you know what’s weird to me?”
“City, United both have a lot of money, both could use strengthening in that area – those names haven’t been mentioned at all. They haven’t been linked one bit”.
He even questioned Bayern Munich’s lack of activity as they look to sell Thiago and could’ve found a superb alternative in Havertz.
Chelsea have had a clear run for Kai Havertz in this year’s transfer market, with all the European powerhouses dropping out of the race one by one. United were briefly linked to the German international but dropped their focus shortly.
Manchester United are looking to rebuild their squad this summer and add squad depth. Player quality remains a top priority for United manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer.
Manchester United’s primary target this summer has been English winger Jadon Sancho from Dortmund. The deal for Sancho has stalled and United has also reportedly fallen behind in the race to sign defenders Gabriel and Kalidou Koulibaly from Lille and Napoli respectively.
This evidence shows that Manchester United’s transfer policy is getting its deserved scrutiny from one of Europe’s renowned transfer experts.
