Reports: United Hope for a Ighalo Miracle after Holding Late Talks

Manchester United have initiated late negotiations with Shanghai Shenhua in the hope of retaining Odion Ighalo for a slightly longer period, according to Goal.com. Ighalo came to Manchester United on a loan deal back in January and his transfer attracted a lot of criticism since fans were expecting a high-profile move. Yet, the Nigerian forward has been a surprise package and he has been instrumental in helping United push for a Champions League spot.

Under normal circumstances, the Premier League would have already been completed and Ighalo’s loan move would also have come to an end. Yet, the normal schedule has been thrown into disarray due to the coronavirus pandemic stopping football for almost 2 months. Now, the league may not resume until mid-June with an expected completion date of around August. Ighalo was set to return to his parent club Shanghai Shenhua this weekend, but United are holding late talks to extend the deal.

The Chinese club are not keen on selling the player on a permanent basis. If you need to lose Ighalo at this stage, it could leave a serious blow for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men reaching the top four. Leicester and Chelsea occupy the third and fourth places with nine games left in the campaign.
