Manchester United are close to making a sensational recovery and keep Odion Ighalo for another few months. Just a week ago, the Nigerian striker seemed on his way back to the Chinese league with his club, Shanghai Shenhua, very keen on bringing him back. However, United began late discussions with the Chinese club over a loan extension knowing very well that Ighalo’s departure could leave Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team exposed with a lack of options in the attacking department.
Goal.com reports that talks between United and Shanghai Shenhua have progressed so well that the forward will remain at Old Trafford until the end of January 2021. According to Goal.com, Ighalo’s agent said:
“We are nearing an agreement with Manchester United on an extended loan. The agreement will mean that Ighalo will remain with them until January 2021.”
Ighalo has been a breath of fresh air, as he has provided a different dimension to United’s attack. United’s interest in the 30-year-old was laughed off by many critics, but the striker had a crucial impact in several games.
The Premier League has just announced the dates for a comeback. After restarting the season on June 17, the campaign would head into August for the climax. Even though United have been able to secure an extension, which will be announced officially soon, the Red Devils seem to have failed in the attempts to keep the striker on a permanent basis.
