Manchester United have reportedly suffered a fresh injury blow with defender Luke Shaw picking up a hamstring problem during the 2-1 Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The England international picked up the injury during the midway stage of the opening half and he was eventually substituted in the 34th minute with Ashley Young taking up the duties on the left side of the defence.
Shortly after that game, Solskjaer said that he was hopeful over the defender’s comeback ahead of the Southampton clash this weekend, but TalkSPORT claims that the injury will keep him out of action for at least a month after scans revealed the extent of the damage.
Shaw’s career at United has been hampered with numerous injuries and last season was a true exception as he was able to make 40 appearances across all competitions while being voted as the club’s Player of the Year.
He has not started the current campaign in the best of form but his absence will no doubt affect the proceedings with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tending to favour a settled defensive combination this term.
Ashley Young should be expected to occupy the left-back position in the absence of Shaw, given Diogo Dalot is also on the sidelines getting treatment for an injury picked up earlier in the month.
Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmian are the other options at the manager’s disposal, but both of them seem out-of-favour and have not even made the matchday squad during the first three league games of the season.
