Report: Manchester United ready to offer 25-year-old star with a new deal worth £7.82m a year

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly planning to build for the future and wants defender Victor Lindelof to commit to a new and improved contract at the club.

The Sweden international has been one of the mainstays in the central defence over the past 14 months and he has been ever-present this season where he has partnered summer signing Harry Maguire.

Solskjaer has previously indicated that he wants a settled combination from the back and The Sun claims that Lindelof will be rewarded with a fresh four-year deal worth £7.82m annually with the option for another 12 months.

Summer recruits Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Maguire have already laid their mark with standout performances this season and the duo alongside Lindelof and Luke Shaw have been tipped to form the United backline for the long-term.

Lindelof has certainly earned the right to start for the Red Devils on the back of a good 2018/2019 season but he needs to show more concentration on the field after making a couple of costly mistakes in recent games that have worried the United faithful.

The Sweden international will be in action for Solskjaer’s side this weekend when they tackle Leicester City at Old Trafford. The Foxes have a genuine threat upfront in the form of Jamie Vardy and Lindelof can’t afford to make any positional errors against the experienced striker.

Manchester United are currently on a three-match winless run in the Premier League. They have managed just five points from the opening four matches and require a winning display against the Foxes to avoid losing further ground on the top four at the early stages of the season.
