Radamel Falcao, Angel di Maria, Marcos Rojo, Antonio Valencia have all been named in their respective countries’ 30-man preliminary Copa America squad.
With the tournament, hosted by Chile this year, kicking off on 11 June and running until 4 July, United’s South American contingent could be set for a very busy summer schedule, as United’s pre-season tour in North America begins in mid-july.
However, it remains to be seen whether Falcao and Di Maria will still be at the club by then and whether Louis Van Gaal would decide to include them in United’s pre-season squad.
The Argentinian has endured a torrid first season at Old Trafford, but retains the full support of Argentina coach Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino.
“It hurts me, the situation that he has had to endure,” the former Barcelona manager said of the United number 7.
“But it doesn’t change anything for me, he is an extraordinary player. The route that he took wasn’t easy, it was a big jump from Real Madrid to Manchester.”
Meanwhile, Angelo Henriquez has been included in Chile’s preliminary squad, after an excellent season for Dinamo Zagreb, during which the 21-year-old has scored 20 goals in 22 league appearances.
Earlier this week, Henriquez confirmed he would make his move to the Croatian capital permanent in the summer.
Another United striker on loan, Javier Hernandez, has been left out of Mexico’s 30-man squad as boss Miguel Herrera focuses on the CONCACAF Gold Cup which also takes place in July.
