Some Manchester United fans have expressed their disappointment over the team’s display during the third round League Cup tie against Rochdale on Wednesday night.
The Red Devils were expected to register a solid win over their League One counterparts at Old Trafford but their performance was far from impressive in the attacking point of view.
Mason Greenwood broke the deadlock for the Red Devils in the 68th minute of the game but the advantage was soon nullified with 16-year-old Luke Matheson scoring for the visitors.
Eventually, a penalty shootout was required for United to progress to the fourth round and that has frustrated some of the supporters, who have taken to Twitter to criticise the showing.
Twitter Reactions:
That was absolutely hopeless.
Apart from Greenwood and the young academy lads, the senior players should be truly embarrassed and thank the heavens that they scraped through. Lucky.
Painful. Really painful.
What has happened to Manchester United?

In the top 5 worst united performances I’ve ever seen but not even the worst this week, 5 wins, 5 draws and 11 losses, can’t beat a team 17th in league one, sack that Norwegian fraud #OleOut

Yes we won but honestly as a team we are still far below the par @ManUtd

Barring Greenwood, the United attack struggled to impose on the Rochdale defence throughout the game. Paul Pogba did have a wonderful chance to find the breakthrough in the first half but he somehow managed to head his attempt over the bar.
Elsewhere, Rochdale could have won the Cup tie on another day and United would surely have to thank Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who made a sublime goal-line clearance when the scores were 0-0 before the hour mark.
United return to Premier League action with a Monday night encounter versus Arsenal and the players surely need to step up with their performance to come up with the points against the north London giants.
Solskjaer’s side are unbeaten against the Gunners in home league games since 2006 but that statistic would hold no meaning on Monday night, where a victory has now become essential to win over the frustrated fans.
