Real Madrid looking to poach top Man Utd target

Manchester United are expected to sign a new centre-back over the summer, provided we don’t land one during the January transfer window.

Lots of names continue to be linked with a move to Old Trafford and one in particular that comes up more than most is Kalidou Koulibaly.

The Napoli centre-back has been linked with a move to us since last summer when Ed Woodward and co failed to negotiate a deal with last season’s Serie A runners-up. However, he did only sign a new five-year contract in Naples back in August.

Koulibaly is without doubt one of the best centre-backs in the world, having proved himself in Italy over the past four-and-a-half years, as well as the Champions League. There is no doubt he’d be a star at Manchester United, should we land him.

However, it looks as though we are going to face stern competition as Real Madrid are preparing a bid worth £90 million for the Senegalese international, according to reports.

Italian outlet Il Mattino (via talkSport) are reporting that Real Madrid could make a move for the 27-year-old as early as this month.

The Spanish giants themselves are having a difficult season – 10 points behind leaders Barcelona since losing both Zinedine Zidane and Cristiano Ronaldo over the summer. And whilst they do have a full-time manager in place, one can’t help but think Santiago Solari will be gone before the start of next season. You could argue that we are in a much more stable position than the reigning Champions League holders!

We’ll have to wait and see if Real Madrid do go ahead with a bid for Kalidou Koulibaly this month, and should they do so, whether Manchester United will come in with a bid of our own.
