A section of Manchester United fans have expressed their delight after Mason Greenwood’s brilliant second-half performance against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League.
The Red Devils could not find the net during the course of the opening half against AZ where the Dutch outfit undoubtedly had the better chances to take the lead.
However, following the interval, United stepped up their performance with Ashley Young scoring in the 53rd minute and thereafter, Greenwood took control of the proceedings.
The United graduate scored his third Europa League goal of the campaign in the 58th minute and six minutes later, he won the penalty which Juan Mata converted for his first goal of the season.
Within the next 120 seconds, Greenwood bagged his second goal on the night with another excellent left-footed strike to beat the goalkeeper at the near post and that capped off a fine man of the match display.
The 18-year-old created a piece of club history on Thursday as he became the youngest United player to score two or more goals in European competition and there has plenty of positive reaction after his showing.
Twitter Reactions:
It’s actually scary how similar Mason Greenwood is to Robin Van Persie.
Special, special talent. pic.twitter.com/VkBsADMd7j

Mason Greenwood has already scored more #mufc goals than Di Maria, Falcao and Federico Macheda. Unlike Macheda, suspect we'll be seeing a lot more of Greenwood in a United shirt over the coming years. #mufc

Greenwood is so exciting, what a talent. We had Laird, Pereira, Chong, Williams, Tuanzebe, Greenwood, Garner on the pitch tonight and still won 4-0, thats incredible for any top club. The Europa League has been a blessing in disguise, perfect platform to blood our kids.

Mason Greenwood playing like this at 18 years of age is incredible. Left foot and right foot it doesn’t matter. His composure and ice cold finishing in front of goal is scarily good. He’s got everything in abundance. Destined for greatness.

Greenwood’s ability to create for himself is his most impressive trait for me. He is so clever with his little touches to create the angle for himself to shoot, he makes opportunities out of nothing. Resembles RVP in a number of ways. #MUFC pic.twitter.com/ZCAsw8x7SN

Greenwood has largely started in the Cup competitions this term with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Daniel James ahead of him in the pecking order for the frontline roles in the league.
His efforts against Alkmaar certainly warrant a starting role in the top-flight and it remains to be seen whether he is rewarded with the same when the Red Devils face Everton at Old Trafford on Sunday.
