Rasmus Hojlund to get #17 shirt with Fred expected to leave this week

Manchester United’s new signing Rasmus Hojlund will get the number 17 shirt with Fred set to leave the club, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Brazil international has not featured for the Red Devils since the Lyon friendly due to personal terms, and he is now on the verge of an exit.

The midfielder has been linked with the likes of Galatasaray and Fulham, and Romano claims that he will 100 per cent leave United this week.

Hojlund was not presented with a shirt number during his presentation on Saturday. United are planning to hand him the no.17 jersey after Fred’s exit.

Hojlund set to wear number 17 shirt

The Denmark international has worn four different numbers during his young career. He started with 45 at Copenhagen before switching to 28.

At Sturm Graz, he wore the number nine shirt before taking the number 17 jersey at Atalanta. The 20-year-old looks set to continue with the same.

The no.9 and no.28 shirts are already occupied by Anthony Martial and Facundo Pellistri, who are not expected to leave the club on a permanent basis.

The no.45 remains vacant, but United and Hojlund himself would prefer a lower squad number. Hence, the Red Devils have to wait for Fred’s departure.

As Romano said, the midfielder’s exit could happen in the coming days, but there is not an urgent need as Hojlund may not be fit for the season opener.

He picked up a minor injury in Atalanta’s pre-season campaign, and it could take a few weeks before he makes his competitive debut for the Red Devils.
