Manchester United are scheduled to face arch-rivals Manchester City on the road in tomorrow’s late Premier League kick-off. The Red Devils recently returned to winning ways with a dominant 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford and the fans will be expecting more of the same when the club take on Pep Guardiola’s side at the Etihad Stadium.
Formation: 4-3-3
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer stuck with the four-man defence against Spurs and he is unlikely to make a change, particularly after the resolute display at the back. Instead, the Norwegian may probably want more protection in the midfield to curb the threat from the likes of Kevin de Bruyne and David Silva in the opposition ranks.
Predicted Lineup:
David de Gea had a solid game between the sticks against Spurs and he could not do much for the goal conceded. The Spaniard is expected to start in goal and will be hoping to register his first clean sheet in 11 league games.
In the defence, there seems no need to change things around. Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire and Ashley Young should make up the backline. Young was indeed a surprise inclusion ahead of Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams against Spurs but the veteran does offer more in the defensive scheme of things which suits Solskjaer.
In the centre of the park, Scott McTominay and Fred are definite starters and the latter certainly had the best game in the United shirt in midweek. The Brazilian had the most touches, passes and interceptions than any United player on Wednesday and the fans will be hoping for more of the same at the Etihad. Andreas Pereira could take up the third midfield slot, given he can offer more protection from the midfield when compared to Jesse Lingard.
In the attack, no changes are expected. Anthony Martial has returned to the mix after a muscular problem but Solskjaer has hinted that the Frenchman may not feature from the starting lineup. As such, Marcus Rashford and Daniel James are likely to feature on the left and right wing respectively as against Spurs with Mason Greenwood starting upfront.
