Raphael Varane has provided a positive update on the injury he sustained during Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Brentford on Saturday evening.
The Red Devils came into the contest on the back of a stunning 4-3 FA Cup win over Liverpool, but they produced a lacklustre display at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The Bees dominated proceedings, having 31 shots on goal. But they failed to break the deadlock in normal time despite hitting the woodwork three times and having a goal ruled out for offside.
United appeared to have pulled off an undeserved victory when Mason Mount scored in the sixth minute of injury time. However, Brentford equalised three minutes later through Kristoff Ajer.
Erik ten Hag’s side will be unhappy about the result as the gap to fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur has widened following their home victory over Luton Town.
United also suffered more injury problems as Varane was taken off at the interval and Victor Lindelof limped off in the second half. However, Varane’s withdrawal was just precautionary.
With Chelsea and Liverpool next on the agenda, Ten Hag will hope to have Varane back soon, as they are already low on defensive options.
The 30-year-old was impressive during the 45 minutes he played at Brentford. He had 38 touches in the game with a 93 percent pass accuracy. He also completed two of his three long balls.
