Raphael Varane announces he will be leaving Man Utd this summer

French defender Raphael Varane has announced his departure from Manchester United following the expiry of his contract this summer.

The 31-year-old has been a key player for the Red Devils over the past three seasons, but he will be heading for the exit door when the campaign ends.

His current deal expires at the end of June. United had the option to trigger an extension clause to keep him for another year, but they opted against it.

In an official video message on social media platform X, Varane has revealed that he will leaveon a free transfer on June 30.

Some fans anticipated Varane’s departure after the lack of progress in contract talks.

The former Real Madrid man is currently the second-highest earner after Casemiro, and the club have decided to part ways with him.

Varane’s persistent injury problems may have played a big role. He may not be the only high-profile player heading for the exit door. Casemiro could follow him out soon.

Multiple Saudi Pro League clubs are interested in the Brazilian star. United are reportedly prepared to listen to offers and want an early transfer deal.

Jadon Sancho, Donny van de Beek and Christian Eriksen could also depart in the coming weeks as the club look to lower their wage bill.

The Red Devils won’t be in the Champions League next term. There is a possibility they may not qualify for any European competition for the first time since the 2014/15 season.

This could have a significant impact on the club’s finances and summer transfer budget. Lowering the wage bill could help generate additional funds for new signings.
