Ralf Rangnick reacts to upcoming Erik ten Hag announcement

Manchester United’s interim boss Ralf Rangnick has said that he has no idea when the club could announce the appointment of Erik ten Hag as their next permanent manager.

Ten Hag has verbally agreed to take charge of United this summer. It had recently been reported that the deal could be formally announced after Sunday’s Dutch Cup final.

That has not been the case so far. When asked about the possible announcement, Rangnick remained coy, emphasising that the board will decide the right moment.

He told reporters via Manchester Evening News: “I don’t know. This is an issue for the club and the board and as soon as there is something to announce then I’m pretty sure the club will make that announcement.”

“Right now, that doesn’t affect our preparation for the game tomorrow or the game on Saturday. We are fully aware that out of those six games we probably need almost maximum points.

“You can see even other teams are dropping points. This is about being consistent and the team that will finish fourth will be who is most committed to that.”

United’s prime focus for now will be on the Champions League race. They are within three points off fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur following the 3-2 win over Norwich City.

With six more matches to play, there is every chance of usurping Spurs to the fourth spot, but will be a difficult challenge with the run of fixtures coming up for the club.

United have a tough encounter away at Liverpool tomorrow. They have not won a league game at Anfield since 2016. This will be followed by the north London trip to Arsenal.

The Gunners have looked out of sorts amid injuries, but United don’t have the best of recent records at the Emirates either. They have not won in the league at the stadium since 2017.

After facing Liverpool and Arsenal, they will host Chelsea on April 28. The upcoming schedule could make or break their top-four prospects. Rangnick would not want any distractions.
