Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick was delighted with David de Gea’s superb performance in goal during the club’s 1-0 Premier League win over Norwich City.
The Red Devils were fancied to secure a third-straight league win, but they needed to work hard against the Canaries, who probably produced their best performance of the campaign.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s 75th-minute goal from the penalty spot split the difference between the clubs.
However, the United players were indebted to De Gea for another stellar showing in goal.
The Spain international has been in excellent touch for the Mancunian giants this campaign, and he was at the top of his game once more with five saves against the Canaries.
One of those came right after Ronaldo’s penalty. The Spaniard showed terrific reflexes, making an excellent diving save towards his right. He was undoubtedly the man of the match.
Following the game, Rangnick was full of praise for the £16.2 million-rated star. He hailed the ‘fantastic performance’ from the Spaniard, who was hugely influential in the second half.
He told Manutd.com: “It was a fantastic performance by David. He was probably Man of the Match, especially in the second half. He made three or four brilliant saves.”
United have shown signs of improvement under Rangnick. They are playing with a clear game plan while there has been more intensity and high pressing in the opposition half.
However, the players are still adapting to the new tactical system and looked out of pace during the back end of the game, where the Canaries created plenty of chances on goal.
Luckily, De Gea was solid between the sticks once again. The 31-year-old’s form this term has been a massive boost for United, who have looked defensively out of sorts for most of the season.
