PSG renew interest in Manchester United castaway Marcus Rashford

Paris Saint-Germain have renewed their interest in Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford ahead of the summer transfer window, L’Equipe reports.

Rashford has been frozen out of Ruben Amorim’s squad and is expected to leave United this summer, nearly a decade after graduating as one of the most exciting prospects from the club’s academy.

The 27-year-old is gearing up to face the French champions in the Champions League on loan at Aston Villa, so it could be an audition ahead of this summer.

PSG’s interest in Rashford is one of many talking points from the eagerly anticipated round of 16 tie, with the Ligue 1 giants hoping to finally secure the services of the England international.

Rashford came closer than ever to joining PSG in the summer of 2022.

At the time, PSG wanted the ‘unstoppable‘ forward to replace Neymar after Kylian Mbappe pledged his allegiance to the club, and the Man United star had reportedly agreed a deal in principle.

Discussions between Rashford’s camp and PSG’s hierarchy took place over multiple meetings, with then-sporting director Leonardo leading the talks.

However, Leonardo’s exit in May 2022 threw a wrench into those plans.

Luis Campos stepped in and was expected to pick up where his predecessor left off, but ex-PSG executive Antero Henrique had put an end to the months-long negotiations.

Now, nearly three years later, PSG have reportedly resumed contact with Rashford’s representatives, with Campos keen to bring the Englishman to the French capital.

PSG are expected to be in the market for a new striker this summer, and Rashford has emerged as a potential target.

Rashford has been in fine form since joining Villa, notching three goals and four assists in 12 games across all competitions, although he didn’t open his Premier League account until April.

Villa are still pondering whether or not to activate their £40 million option to sign Rashford permanently, but with PSG now in the mix, United will fancy their chances of getting their money’s worth for the Englishman.
