Manchester United will be hoping to cement ourselves in second place in the table when we welcome Liverpool to Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
The title is long gone as we currently sit 16 points adrift of Manchester City with just 9 games remaining but we’re in a fierce battle to finish in the runners-up spot.
Liverpool went second for a couple of days with securing a comfortable victory over Newcastle at Anfield at the weekend which put the pressure on United.
It looked like we’d bottled it but we somehow managed to come from two goals down to beat Crystal Palace last night thanks to a last gasp stunner from Nemanja Matic.
The win at Selhurst Park was vital as it gives us a two-point cushion over our north-west rivals ahead of this weekend’s crucial showdown at Old Trafford.
A United win would see us go five points clear with just 8 games left so we’d be in pole position to finish second, however, a Liverpool win would blow things wide open.
Thankfully, United have the rest of the week to prepare for the game but Liverpool must first play Porto in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie this evening so hopefully that will give us a slight edge on Saturday.
Betting odds
A look at the Manchester United vs Liverpool betting odds shows us that the bookmakers are struggling to separate the two teams with 888Sport offering United at 2.68 while Liverpool are at odds of 2.65.
I don’t see us losing this game as Mourinho has a long history of grinding out results in big games, particularly at home, so United or the draw ‘double chance’ at 1.50 looks good value.
A 2-2 draw at 12.00 is tempting, however, I fancy us to snatch all three points and a 2-1 win is the most likely scoreline which is available at odds of 9.50.
Romelu Lukaku has found his goal-scoring touch again in recent games so I’d back him to get on the scoresheet this weekend and if we bet on the Belgian to score at anytime in a 2-1 United win we get excellent odds of 20.00.
